Statement
My practice of Fine Art is rooted in the processes of drawing and painting, extending into the creative potential of video and photography. Ideas evolve with individual identities, possibly growing into installation.

These underlying concerns sustain the character of the work
- Temporality, decay, fragility and the state of mortality.
- The orchestration and manipulation of surface, made manifest in mark making, or space and light.
- The investigation of materials and their chemistry.
- The investigation process itself.

Studio work may be informed by theoretical studies, and by investigation of the working ideas of painters, in particular Gorky and De Kooning. Related interest in contemporary work by artists includes James Turrell, Richard Serra and Bill Viola whose theories both inform and highlight their individuality and help to shape and define my own studio practice and theoretical position.

My work progresses, not in a linear manner, but through a pattern of deliberation, speculation and adoption of a retrospective position or tangential approach. By these means, work is fashioned by building on past experiences and investigating new directions often suggested by the character of the work itself.
