| New Lead Sculpture Since 2004, I have started to weld the lead together. Before this, I only used lead as single sheets. The use of welding has given me a new direction with my use of lead as it enables me to wrap objects that are truly three-dimensional. |
height 1525 mm width 915 mm depth 510 mm| I have begun a series of works using sections of tree as a starting pont. My aim with these sculptures is to bring the natural and the man made closer together to a point where it is not clear whether what you are looking at is a man made object or a natural one. |

So in Twin II or Shift or Bendibus the branches are trimmed to a decided length and the main body of the trunk is cut down the centre line and the two pieces realigned. In Twin II they are just moved apart a bit. In Shift, they are moved apart a bit more whilst in Bendibus the two pieces are set more or less at right angles to each other. In all of them a new object is created. |

height 1270 mm width 2080 mm depth 100 mm| Drawings / Rubbings The idea for my recent rubbings came from my interest as a sculptor in feeling with my hands as much as using my eyes. The idea was to rub round three-dimensional objects and to then flatten them out so everything could be seen at once. |
height 1015 mm width 1525 mm | Door and Roof is an example where in its normal three-dimensional state you cannot see all of it at once. Also the drawing/rubbings make you much more aware of the texture and pattern of things. The technique was to use a wax candle and rub it over the object. Then black gouache was painted over. Only then was the form of the object revealed. |
