Movement, 2007, sculpture - Bronze  More Work Statement by Ankit Patel I am fascinated by the fluidity of metal that is basically known for its solidity. The raw form of different metals has a primitive appeal that pulls me and suggests the most basic of forms - the circle. I experience the beauty and strength that lies in this basic form. I don't accept the static nature of the things as they are outwardly seen to exist and give them a whirling motion like a Wavelet or Playtop of school going children, interested in seeing things around them in motion. But in terms of art, I give it the separate characteristic, speed, in addition to motion. My shift from Kinetic energies to the lyrical rhythm of the world of sports was not accidental but out of an urge to open the window from within turning around the speedy motion of sport physiques into aesthetic forms and swirls of dance - as in folk and urban forms. |
