The 'Inward Eye' perhaps implies also an 'outward' eye - and it is my initial 'outward' seeking that triggers the beginning of the inestimably more creative process invoked by the 'inward eye and its adventurous journey through painting towards a totally unforeseen and usually unexpected resolution.
The inward discovery of memories of past experience - in all aspects of life - together with the inventive association of inner ideas senses feelings and imagination provide a means of expression through which to inform and develop imagery. It is rather like the art of young children who draw and paint what they 'know' inwardly rather than what they physically 'see' outwardly - investing their creative process with the joy and excitement of the mysterious world in which we live. indeed Picasso expressed his envy of this facility. In this process i use the intellect or the thinking function primarily and consciously as the organiser of imagery to provide the necessary underlying structure in order to enhance legibility and facilitate perception. Just as the natural world is transformed by this imaginative inward 'seeing' - so the work of other artists and painting movements such as impressionism cubism abstraction and surrealism form part of this inner experience and this also plays its part in the amalgam of inspiration.
