only version
Charcoal rubbed into oil impregnated paper then drawn into using a flat steel blade exposing the white of the paper beneath. Layer upon layer of writing until you are only aware of an overall surface or pattern. The word cross is written in one direction and hatch in the other so it creates a visual play on the meaning of the word.
