Based on a colour postcard of a balloon festival. I wanted to take the voluminous ephemeral balloon form and create a decorative variety of motifs to bring the picture alive. There is a textile/pattern making influence - it could also be a wallpaper design as most of the motifs are in the foreground giving a 2-D emphasis. The lines of birds were added later.
